Food industry: Transport and installation of a stainless steel tank

Got milk? One thing SCHOLPP has certainly got is capable fitters, who were needed for this job for DMK Deutsches Milchkontor. A new large container was to be installed at the company’s Erfurt site. We were contracted to transport and install the 80-cubic-meter stainless-steel tank, weighing 11 metric tons. Two truck-mounted cranes erected the 13.5-meter-long container in a tandem lift. The fitters were working at great heights on this installation.

Germany’s largest dairy companies. The Erfurt plant invested in a new large container, and the nearby SCHOLPP branch was awarded the full-service contract. Loading and unloading, transportation, positioning, and installation of the 11-metric-ton, 13.50-meter-long stainless-steel container with a diameter of 3.40 meters had to be completed within two days.

Perfectly synchronized: Two truckmounted cranes perform a tandem lift

This was an ambitious requirement, considering that two truck-mounted cranes were needed to load the tank at the manufacturer and unload it at the dairy. In a tandem lift, the two cranes performed the tilting maneuvers for horizontal transportation on the heavyduty truck as well as the erecting and positioning maneuvers at the new site.

Flying high at 14 meters: Special occupational safety regulations

After positioning, the fitters aligned the stainless-steel tank precisely so that it could then be seamlessly fixed to the foundation. This was followed by the installation of the attachments (ladder, roof). The fitters used their articulated telescopic boom lift to reach a working height of 14 meters. Special health and safety regulations for installation at heights had to be observed.

Thanks to good logistical planning, timely provision of the technical equipment, and seasoned experience, the job was completed on schedule, much to the customer’s delight.
