Machinery transport in Poland

Indoor delivery and positioning of a straightening machine

The international thyssenkrupp group operates a steel service center in the industrial city of Dąbrowa Górnicza, near Katowice, Poland. thyssenkrupp Materials Poland S.A. commissioned SCHOLPP to transport machinery. The plan was to bring a new straightening machine into the production plant and position it.

Machinery transport for the largest steel center in Eastern Europe.

The plant in Dąbrowa Górnicza is the largest steel, logistics and service center for thyssenkrupp in Eastern Europe, comprising an indoor area of around 75,000 square meters. From here, customers in Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Ukraine are supplied with flat steel products. Clients include automobile manufacturers, automotive suppliers, and stamping plants, as well as manufacturers and suppliers of household appliances.

The transport order for thyssenkrupp concerned a straightening machine weighing a total of 55 metric tons and measuring 6×3×3.5 meters. The manufacturer of the machine is KOHLER Maschinenbau GmbH, who have been designing and manufacturing straightening technology for the sheet-processing industry for more than 50 years.

Machinery transport with heavy-duty trolleys and lifting gantry

KOHLER delivered the new machine to Dąbrowa Górnicza, and SCHOLPP took it over at the plant entrance. In this works-internal machinery transport, the SCHOLPP team were responsible for bringing the machine into the workshop and transporting it laterally within the plant. The team also had to set it down and position it in the intended production location.

The straightening machine was driven into the workshop on a truck and then directly lifted and unloaded by the TG 320 gantry. Once the truck had left, the straightening machine was placed on a machine transport cart (60 metric tons). A ten-metric-ton forklift then maneuvered the machine transport cart during the lateral transport through the workshop.

While this was happening, the SCHOLPP team dismantled the TG 320 lifting gantry at the workshop entrance and then reassembled it at the machine’s future location, where there was considerably less space available. As a result, installing the straightening machine proved to be far more complicated than unloading it from the truck. For the last step, the TG 320 lifting gantry placed the machine in its final position. The manufacturer then completed the installation of the straightening machine.
