Plant relocation
The Freudenberg Group faced a problem many successful businesses encounter: it had outgrown its site in Berlin, where it produces sophisticated special sealing products for the automotive industry, such as axle boots and sealing bellows. The decision was taken to move its subsidiary Freudenberg Spezialdichtungsprodukte to the Adlershof Science and Technology Park five kilometres away. The new site had capacity for an 11,000-square-metre production facility, plus space for the in-house raw materials mixing plant used by the company to produce elastomer blends for further processing. The crunch: to minimize disruption to operations, some of the machines had to be back online in less than three days. Before the move, SCHOLPP convinced Freudenberg that it was the right partner for the relocation with detailed presentations and precise project scheduling. During the relocation, the SCHOLPP installation team moved over 100 special-purpose machines and installed them in the new production facility. Testing labs, measurement machines, the administration unit and dispatch area also had to be relocated. At times, more than 30 SCHOLPP employees were at work on the site, deploying a wide array of transport and loading technologies. All machines went back online on the scheduled start date.
