Relocating a hydraulic press

Dismantling and reinstallation of an EITEL GZ 800 press

Installation work in densely built-up urban environments always presents a challenge. On behalf of Kadow und Riese Laser- und Umformtechnik GmbH in Berlin, SCHOLPP relocated an EITEL GZ 800 hydraulic press within the capital city, taking on the entire job from planning to dismantling, transport and reinstallation, through to electrical installation and recommissioning.

Kadow und Riese is a company that is rich in tradition and that specializes in sheet metal working and sheet metal forming. Since 1880, the company has been working for clients from the architectural and construction sectors, the automotive industry, and for suppliers and industrial companies. The Berlin-based company has already worked with SCHOLPP in the relocation of machine tools. For this project, a hydraulic press needed to be relocated from the Wilmersdorf area of Berlin to Spandau.

Time-saving installation in large components

The press was dismantled into five large components: the head piece, press bed, side stands, ram and drawing cushion. Before taking it apart, the press was technically inspected and its condition documented. The heaviest component weighed 45 metric tons, but the team still managed to find an economical solution involving three mobile cranes (up to 400 metric tons) thanks to good planning and a wealth of experience in the area of press installation.

Setting up the large 400-t mobile crane in Berlin Wilmersdorf for the loading of the press components required a lot of caution, and involved completely blocking off the access road. Right at the planning phase, the SCHOLPP team obtained all of the permits required to operate on public roads in the densely populated urban area. The spatial conditions at the dismantling site were very tight, both in front of and inside the facility. A support structure had to be built for the opened hall roof. An additional mobile crane (70 metric tons) was used to release the press and remove the anchor bolts via the roof. The basic dismantling was then handled by a 300-t mobile crane with a radius of 25 m.

Installation with electrical installation and recommissioning

The press components were initially put into storage following transportation to the Spandau area of Berlin. The preparation work at the new installation location was being conducted in parallel, including the foundation work and modifications to the utilities, the steelwork and the installation of cable trays. The scope of services for the project also included the upgrading of the electrical installation on the press during reinstallation. Once the tension rods had been tightened, the SCHOLPP team was able to put the machine back into operation.
