Relocation of four production lines in the food industry
Staying cool in tight spaces: The Berlin-based SCHOLPP team realised a complete relocation for DMK Deutsches Milchkontor GmbH within eight weeks. Four production lines for ice cream were to be dismantled in Prenzlau/Brandenburg, transported to Everswinkel/North Rhine-Westphalia and reassembled there. This project involved moving large vessels, which posed a number of challenges for the team due to the limited space available.
DMK Deutsches Milchkontor is Germany's largest dairy co-operative and produces cheese, dairy products, baby food and ice cream. The brands MILRAM, Oldenburger, Humana, Alete and Uniekaas are particularly well known. DMK operated a production facility for ice lollies at the Prenzlau site. Four production lines were to be relocated from Brandenburg to Everswinkel near Münster, 600 kilometres away, in eight weeks. SCHOLPP Berlin took on the job, which included mechanical dismantling and removal, loading and transport in Prenzlau, as well as unloading, move-in and mechanical reassembly in Everswinkel.
Efficient dismantling: Multiple routes, various equipment
When the project started, several large stainless steel vessels weighing 8.00 tonnes and 12.00 tonnes were dismantled in the outdoor area of the Prenzlau ice factory. These measured up to 17.00 m in height and 3.50 m in diameter and removal had to be planned 16 weeks in advance as the transport required authorisation. The production systems inside the factory building were removed in various ways. Some of the large stainless steel vessels in Hall 2 were dismantled, tilted and moved out horizontally. Manoeuvrable Ormig industrial cranes with a high load capacity (9 tonnes), heavy-duty rollers and forklift trucks (up to 8 tonnes) from the SCHOLPP equipment park were used.
In Hall 1, some tanks and electrical cabinets were lifted out via a opening in the roof. This was necessary because the tilting manoeuvres would have been more complicated here due to the height of the hall roof. Removal via the roof saved valuable time. The parts were lifted using a mobile crane (230 tonnes) with a 40 m jib. In order to meet the agreed deadline of eight weeks, it was important to precisely coordinate the disassembly, transport and reassembly processes and to always have the right number of fitters and transport capacity available (35 lorry semitrailers and 7 special transports).
Planning a year in advance and relocation just in time
On average, twelve fitters were on the rigging sites at the departure and destination locations. As there was no space for interim storage at both locations, the removal was carried out just in time. The processes were planned over a year in advance by the SCHOLPP project management team.
A long planning lead time with detailed agreements, precise organisation of staff and equipment as well as just-in-time disassembly and reassembly were important factors for the successful implementation of the project in just eight weeks.
